CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME in UK for Bangladeshi Citizens

  The British High Commission in Dhaka invites applications for the Chevening Scholarship Scheme for Bangladeshi Citizens in session 2013 - 2014.
 
The Chevening Scholarships programme started in 1984. Largely funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Scholarship scheme also receives significant contributions from Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and other partners in the UK. In the current academic year there are over 500 Chevening scholars at universities across the UK. The programme is managed by the British Council, through a Service Level Agreement.

Can I apply?
Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields.

There is no age limit, but you must have Bangladeshi citizenship and intend to return to Bangladesh at the end of the study period. You must have good English as most postgraduate courses require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 and normally hold a degree of an equivalent standard to at least a good UK second-class honors degree.

Candidates should be motivated to make a career leading to a position of leadership in their own countries within 10 years of their scholarships and be committed to networking to find global solutions.

Suitable candidates should be:
  • Graduates with the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership such as:  - influencing and communication skills, leadership track record, networking ability, ambition, plans for the future;  - intelligence, academic potential, drive, self-management, strength of character, integrity, interests outside work
  • motivated to make a career leading to a position of leadership in their own countries within 10 years of their scholarships
  • committed to networking to find global solutions;
  • able to use their studies and experience in the UK to benefit themselves, their countries and the UK 
The High Commission particularly encourages those actively working in fields of interest to the UK’s foreign policy including:
  • Law Enforcement Agencies
  • Policy makers/civil servants 
  • Judicial reformers
  • Influential media
  • Environmentalists
  • SME businesses
  • Civil Society
